He says he won the sweater from Cassie after he pointed out that it says For Men on the label...

Zipper climate control

Sylvia! A physicist formerly working at Makani and now about to travel the world and possibly settle in Vancouver. What is it about people moving that finally brings you together? We've had several awesome farmer's market suppers since she stopped working downstairs...

Sylvia's had this sweater since December 06, when she and her friend Carolyn were shopping in NYC. The sweater is a favorite in part because it works well climate control-wise, having a zipper up to the neck. Especially awesome are the zippered pockets.

Geoff works at Makani and is a new papa, as well as being both the former California State Citrus Squeezer Champion and a National Ultimate Frisbee Champion. What I love about this picture is that you can see he literally loves his clothes To Death... super enviro friendly, eh?

I've long since forgotten where and when I got that sweater, though I suspect it was a Christmas gift when my mother was able to find cheap cashmere at Costco. Which sort of explains why I like the sweater - uber comfortable and cosy while still being cheap enough that I can wear it out without worrying about it. That and I like the fact that it's appropriate over a wide range of activity - going out at night to the bars and cold, foggy mornings before ultimate tournaments.

I don't wash it often. I have too many sweaters that I've shrunk and had to give away. Every so often I trepidatiously give in and throw it in the laundry.

Nile's fabulous Favorite Sweater

Spotted the other day at Gravel & Gold, Nile has had this sweater for about two years. She bought it in Alameda (flea market?) and it is most definitely handmade. Super handmade. Check out the back!

Eric (from Instructables) has had his sweater for seven years... according to my notes he washes it about once a year (this is useful so we know how much he's saving resources-wise vs turning on the heat). In his words:

This sweater is one I keep at work. It's always there in case I've underdressed and the office is too cold. It was way too big when I bought it and I had to run two seams up along the sides so it would fit me better. It still hangs a little funny on me, but it's plenty warm.

Inspired by Saul and Jim's Game Plan presentation at Foo Camp waaay back when (and because we worked in an ever-so-tiny way on the presentation ourselves), we decided to collect images of people wearing their favorite sweaters (or anyway images of people in Awesome sweaters) with the idea being that a good, cozy warm sweater is more enviro-friendly than turning on a heater and burning up dino bodies and ancient plant goo in an attempt to heat a room. Exactly how much more environmentally friendly we will leave to you to calculate, with the help of our friends at Wattzon. We choose frivolous sartorial bliss... and now.... On to the sweaters!

Tim Anderson! Favorite sweater: a vest-hat-scarf combination which he prefers because he doesn't like it when his elbows are warm. Made hat and scarf from old airline blanket. Vest from thrift store (washed approx 2-3 times in 2-3 years he's had them.. never dried).
